Since 2014, Famille Michaud Apiculteurs has undertaken to address more demanding consumer expectations: to have access to certified organic hive products.
In 2014, organic beekeeping in France was still in its early years. For Famille Michaud Apiculteurs, it was the beginning of a new adventure.
The company decided to team up with seven beekeepers to test large-scale organic beekeeping. To accomplish their goal, they established a simple, reassuring framework between Famille Michaud Apiculteurs and the beekeepers, with three-year contracts, guaranteed prices, and quick turnaround times for pick-up and payment. After one production season, the result was positive with more than four tonnes of honey harvested. Six years later, Famille Michaud Apiculteurs now contracts honey with sixty-eight beekeepers and purchases more than 150 tonnes of organic French honey.
“Our success is growing with constantly evolving production.”
The company continues to support partner beekeepers as they transition to organic beekeeping, providing personalised advice for technical and administrative issues, publishing a guide to organic requirements and funding options, and offering financial support for beekeepers.
Today, the company has an even longer-term vision of showcasing sustainable beekeeping by developing new organic French honey products for consumers.
